The New York State Houndsmen Conservation Association, Inc.
is an organization dedicated to protecting hound hunting rights at
the state level. We are
comitted to promoting the use of hounds and good sportsmanship. It's imperative that beaglers,
coon hunters, bird dog lovers and fox hound enthusiasts unite as one voice. We publish several
newsletters a year in an effort to keep our membership informed. The officers and zone
representatives meet several times a year and every spring we sponsor an annual banquet
complete with informative speakers and several awards.
New York State has one of the largest bear populations and provides some of the finest bear
hunting opportunities in the eastern United States. The NYHCA was founded and incorporated in
the 70's to promote bear dog hunting in New York by a well known and respected houndsmen,
Dave Barber. However, on August 24, 1990, the ASPCA anti-hunting movement filed a lawsuit against
the DEC for allowing bear to be pursued by dogs.
You and I lost our right to hunt with hounds in a Manhattan Supreme Court 3 days before the
season began. With a lot of work and dedication the houndsmen have been able to reinstate a
bear dog training season.
Help your state organization to be in a position to fight back as they did with the bear dog issue! Who know's what lays around
the corner.
We need to be strong and stay strong, and most importantly introduce the positives of
our sport to the next generation!
